Development

A table players can trust.

Spellrelay is being built as a browser first play space for deck testing and private online games. This page documents the technical choices behind that promise without turning the player landing page into a development log.

The server owns the game

Players submit commands. The server validates them, applies deterministic rules, and returns only the state each player is allowed to see.

Hidden information stays private

Hands and private choices are projected for the correct player rather than bundled into one shared browser payload.

Changes can be replayed

Commands produce ordered events. Deterministic reducers make matches easier to restore, inspect, test, and eventually replay.

Card support is explicit

Imported card facts remain separate from executable behavior. Unsupported cards are blocked instead of receiving invented rules.

Current status

Spellrelay is in active development. Automated checks validate tests, lint, TypeScript, and production builds for every proposed change. Game coverage will expand only when behavior can be validated and executed safely.

What it is not

Spellrelay is not an official Wizards client, a replacement for Arena or Magic Online, or an archive for distributing card assets. It is an independent browser table focused on practice and private games.
